VETERAN'S SALMON DERBY

SINCE 2011...

I hope you are enjoying the best day of the rest of your life, living in the greatest, safest and free country in the world!

Folks call me Colonel Guy. I'm a retired Canadian Armed Forces Infantry Officer who served more than 35 years. My last tour abroad was in Afghanistan along side my daughter Captain Stephanie Smith. She was employed as a Critical Care Nurse in the Kandahar Hospital. We saw first hand what was asked of our Canadian women and men. For far too many the "cheque they wrote to Canada for up to and including their life" was sadly cashed. Thousands more bear scars both visible and hidden, that will last for the rest of their lives.

Based on our experiences we decided to give back as we were able. Starting in 2011 we held the 1st Annual Veterans Salmon Derby. That year were we were flying by the seat of our pants with 11 boats participating and hosting 15 Veterans. This is the largest and only Veteran’s Salmon Derby in Canada and we have hosted Veterans from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Our last derby (2018) we had 102 Veterans competing on 48 boats.

Unfortunately COVID restrictions have since not allowed us to conduct our derby. The good news is that the Veterans Salmon Derby will once again take place in June 2022.

We also raise funds for our charity, Veterans Helping Veterans and our Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC), who provide programs and assistance for serving and retired military families in need. We need your support to allow our charity work to continue.
